We're Hiring a Gallery Manager!

It's true! We are looking for someone awesome!

We have had an amazing first couple of months and now we're heading into the rest of our busy summer season! We are looking for your help in recruiting someone totally awesome to join our little team at Light Grey Art Lab!

If you or someone you know is interested in working in a vibrant, exciting gallery atmosphere, let us know!

The position itself starts as part time (20+ hours per week) for $12.50/hour.
**We'd love this to turn into a full-time position after a couple months!**
This position would be starting June 1, 2012!

As Gallery Manager, your duties would include:

• communicating with hundreds of amazing international artists
• helping plan and craft exciting exhibitions
• coordinating classes, workshops, lectures, art sales and travel for the Light Grey calendar of events
• helping write and craft promotional materials including press releases, blog entries & social media
• listing and maintaining the Light Grey store
• shipping / receiving artwork & materials
• helping enter sales & financials into Quickbooks
• assisting with payment of instructors and artists


Skills needed:
- Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop
- Great writing and communication skills
- Awesome customer service skills
- Great taste!
- Extreme attention to detail (We need a super-organized person!)
- Ability to get around (bike or a car is handy!)

Pokémon Battle Royale Online Gallery

Exciting news! The official Pokémon Battle Royale gallery is live! If you weren't able to see the show in person, now's your chance to see all the pieces from the Pokémon Battle Royale in one place!

Pokémon Battle Royale Opening!

This past Friday was the opening reception for the Pokémon Battle Royale show! And it was a massive success! Hundreds of Poké-fanatics and art-lovers gathered for a night of art, food, chiptunes, giveaways and fun!

We knew the night was going to be a success when we were preparing to open the doors to the public, and found this waiting outside!



And that was only the beginning! There was a steady stream of people coming all night, with the gallery filled to capacity the entire night! Everyone was in high spirits, I've never seen an artshow with more people smiling and laughing.
















We want to thank all the artists who participated and everyone who attended the opening! Seeing the overwhelming response made all the hard work we put into preparing completely worth it! And a special thanks to Alyssa Nassner and Bryan Ische for curating the entire show, the quality of art was phenomenal!

Meg Hunt is coming to Light Grey Art Lab!

We are so incredibly excited for this summer!
We're in the process of putting up over 22 new workshops and events for the community including one very special weekend event!

Meg Hunt (amazing lady and incredibly talented illustrator) is coming to Minneapolis to lead a two day intensive illustration workshop for artists looking to collaborate and be inspired called Illustration Bootcamp with Meg Hunt.

The workshop itself is going to be held at Light Grey Art Lab on Saturday June 16 and Sunday June 17 and is open to all locals for $160, and we even have a package for artists that would like to travel in to the Twin Cities for an art-related vacation!

We'll be covering everything from Meg's personal process, her thoughts on marketing and the business of being in the arts, we'll be going through some great in-studio creative sessions and we'll be meeting some more fantastic and inspiring guests! We know guests will be going away inspired and ready to take the art world by storm!

Watercolor Workshop : Spring Bouquet - Saturday April 7

Francesca Buchko taught a quick 2.5 hour watercolor workshop this past Saturday at Light Grey Art Lab! Though it was raining outside, spirits were high and a great time was had by everyone involved!



Francesca is a veteran watercolor artist, with years of experience in crafting everything from environments to portraits. She gave a run down of all of the materials, techniques and some advice for painting life-like, beautiful flowers.

Pokémon Battle Royale Group Show!

We're super excited to invite everyone to the Opening Reception for our new show, "Pokémon Battle Royale", on Friday April 20th from 7 - 10pm!

Battle Royale is massive show, with 151 artists taking on the original 151 original Pokémon! The list of amazing talent involved is absolutely awe-inspiring! You can find a full list of participants here!

All artwork is available first-come-first-serve once the doors open, and each piece is only $40!

As a bonus, we're also opening the small gallery, which will feature a special mini-set of Poké-trainers by hand-picked guest artists, as well as a Poké-themed art provided by the superstar collaborative art project Ten Paces and Draw!

The event is free and everyone is welcome! So if you're around the Minneapolis area - stop by and say hello! There will be Poké-themed refreshments, music, super-cool people and fun give-aways!

Yeah! Give-aways! There will be a sweet (free) raffle for some excellent artwork! Make sure to stick around until the drawing at 9 PM to win!

Remember, the Opening Reception is Friday, April 20th from 7- 10pm! We're located on the corner of Stevens Ave and 26th Street - right across from the Minneapolis College of Art & Design. Street parking is available on Stevens, 26th and 1st Ave.

Succulent Terrariums Class - Mini Worlds!

We held an awesome Succulent Terrariums Workshop last Sunday! 10 of us gathered around the studio tables crafting and learning all about how to make and take care of our mini-worlds! Succulents happen to be in high demand for home decor these days! We've seen them popping up in high end places like West Elm and we've seen them all over the internet.

Once we went over the basics of planting and preparing the space for them to live, the customizing began!

Each group had a base pack of vessels, a selection of different types of succulents (lovingly supplied by SucculentsGalore.etsy.com) and a ton of moss, rocks, and colored sand!

It was amazing to see how many different styles and configurations everyone came up with! We had a ton of smiles and a wide array of completely beautiful terrariums when we were finished! Here are some great pictures of our students with their creations!
