New York : Surtex/ NSS Workshop with Paper Bicycle

DSC_0034

Exciting News everyone! We JUST got back from an amazing trip to New York with the Paper Bicycle team (Lindsay Nohl, Chris Hajny, Francesca Buchko and Alyssa Nassner) and 12 amazing artists & designers. This workshop was designed around helping illustrators and designers get to know a little bit more about the world of licensing and selling your work as patterns and graphics for products.

The team arrived and got situated in our Chelsea hotel and got right to work talking about trend spotting as we prepped for a walk around the boutiques of the Meat Packing District. Our group was filled with friendly, energetic people that made fast friends on the trip.

It was great to sit down with everyone and hash out what things everyone was looking to get out of our giant excursion, what people were looking to do professionally, and where some of their interests lie. We covered a little bit of information, had some amazing discussions --

And then we were off!

The trip itself was filled with a three days of researching, working, and being inspired.

Despite having such a large group, it was amazingly intimate and everyone was so friendly and warm.

We had some great nights out on the town at some fantastic restaurants, peppered with conversations and schemes about the future.
We spent an 8 hour day at one of the biggest Stationery and art trade shows in the industry - and held a three part workshop for all of the participants that involved brainstorming, a hands-on walkthrough with tips on how to make contacts at the show, get your portfolio ready, and advice on prepping your portfolio for the surface design industry. It was a long, but extremely productive day and we came away feeling energized by everything we had seen and learned.

We got back to the hotel the second day and took a moment to relax, then headed to the Lower East Side for a fun sit-down dinner and a walk around St Marks. One of my favorite bonding times in particular was at out at a restaurant called Panna II - an Indian restaurant FILLED with Chili Pepper lights. After a long day of trade-showing, it was a welcome break and an amazing time to relax and eat some delicious food.

Street Fortune : Opening Night

Bill Rebholz & Llew Mejia's collaborative show, Street Fortune, opened last Friday May 18th to a fun crowd of graffiti artists, illustrators, designers & friends. Here are a couple of the pictures from the event. It was a great one - relatively low key and comfortable - and good times were had by all.

Bill's letter stamping booth was of specific interest as patrons waltzed in and created their own stamped phrases.

Street Fortune, Almost here!

Bill has the lettering skills. Late night/ getting ready for Street Fortune opening on Friday!!
Bill has all the lettering skils

It's almost here!

Street Fortune : Bill Rebholz & Llew Mejia's art exhibition featuring artwork inspired by the seedy underbelly of urban culture (specific to their neighborhood of Steven's Square, Minneapolis) is just about ready for it's unveiling tomorrow, Friday, May 18!

If you get a chance to come down, you should most certainly stop on in and share a Little Debbie Nutty Bar with the guys. (There are, after all, two bars in that package.) It'll be tons of fun, with great music, lots of sweets, amazing art, and some amazing extra features we've never seen before.

Bill Rebholz has some fantastic skills when it comes to lettering - and for this night only he'll be setting up a letter stamping booth in the gallery and assisting viewers in creating their very own piece of work using his custom stamps. So, definitely come down and say hi to him, and make some art!

Llew Mejia is also setting up his two new lines of apparel and has a ton of great stuff for sale that you can walk away with AT the event -- not to mention, some new custom made pieces that are available to order at the show.

The last perk that you should most definitely be aware of, is that the guys have created some awesome posters that they are giving away to the first 100 people. So come and get them while they last!

I hope you can make it!

Upcoming Show: Street Fortune!

Streetfortune

We're super excited to invite everyone to the Opening Reception for our new show, "Street Fortune", on Friday May 18th from 7 - 11pm! Street Fortune is a collaborative show between Bill Rebholz and Llew Mejia, featuring a subversive, humous look at the seedy characters and underbelly on the Twin Cities.

It's going to be super exciting! During the reception there will be a one-night-only pop-up shop featuring Llew’s two new lines of apparel, accessories and jewelry! Also, Bill will personally work a letter-stamping booth for the first hour of the opening night exhibition (7-8 p.m.) where participants can request a one-word custom design using Rebholz’s own typeface stamps!

AND the artists will also be giving away free hand-pulled screenprints throughout the night!

Remember, the Opening Reception is Friday, May 18th from 7- 11pm! We're located on the corner of Stevens Ave and 26th Street - right across from the Minneapolis College of Art & Design. Street parking is available on Stevens, 26th and 1st Ave.

See you there!
