Words of Advice

Whether it’s finding the strength to roll out of bed in the morning or climbing a mountain, everyone needs a little bit of motivation from time to time. Here at Light Grey Art Lab, we asked many different people all around the world to share their favorite uplifting quotes with us through our You Can Do It, Put Your Back Into It show. From silly to spiritual, everyone was able to bring something exciting to the table.

At our show opening, we reached out to the community once more, and asked those who visited to give us “the best piece of advice they had received or heard.” As thanks for these extra bits of inspiration, we’re giving two lucky advice-givers a print from our show, for the best words of wisdom we received. You Can Do It, Put Your Back Into It by Lindsay Nohl Here is what they said:

-Giveaway Winner-

“If you want things to change you’ve got to change direction.”
-M Weitz

-Runner Up-

“Don’t pay attention to what people say; rather, pay attention to what they do.”

  1. When I had to make my thesis I realized: to come to this conclusion the author of whatever creationist BS book people read had to make several faulty assumptions depending on which biological structure author is claiming is irreducibly complex.

  6. People on both sides of the table profit when the trade is handled properly. People who are actually receptive to direction (as opposed to those who are only seeking approval) come up with better answers to issues than they would have on their own. They give their reasoning more depth and texture, and research demonstrates that they are capable of overcoming cognitive biases, self-serving justifications, and other logical faults. Effective advice-givers use soft influence; they mold significant decisions while motivating others to take action. They may gain a lot from the issues that others present them since they are attentive listeners. Furthermore, the principle of reciprocity is a strong motivator since it frequently results in an implicit debt that clients are eager to recoup.
