Applications Open for the Light Grey Iceland Residency 2016!

Our team is back in Minneapolis after completing the Light Grey Iceland Residency 2015! Over the last couple weeks, we have been traveling with 24 artists of different industries and backgrounds, exploring Iceland's most sublime landscapes, geothermal pools, and volcanic formations. We had a wonderful time traveling, sharing ideas, and collaborating with one another! Photographs, sketches, and documentation from the Iceland Residency 2015 will be shared shortly! Applications for the Iceland Residency 2016 are now available!

We invite artists to apply for a spot in next year's program. Join a small team of exceptional creators and academics on a journey of discovery, camaraderie, and inspiration in one of the most incredible and fragile landscapes in the world. Dipping into the Arctic circle, Iceland's landscape is a paradoxically gorgeous mixture of fire and ice, home to fragile (but hardy) varieties of lichen, bird-life, and glaciers. We welcome artists from all over the world to apply for the residency and are looking forward to the diverse backgrounds and perspectives we'll share abroad.

Iceland Residency 2014

As part of our mission to connect creatives through diverse and experiential endeavors, we're excited to announce a new residency program. This year's creative residency will take place in just a few weeks, from August 13-18, in Southern Iceland. We'll be bringing together a group of 10 creatives to explore and share concepts, conversations, and experiences.

The participating artists are: Teagan White, Kali Ciesemier, Sam Bosma, Meg Hunt & Mike Freeman, Gloria Pizzilli, Manuel Kilger, Maike Plenzke, B. Paul Patterson, and Colin Foran, Claire Hummel, as well as Light Grey staff Jenny Bookler, Lindsay Nohl and Chris Hajny.

We're super excited, and we'll be sharing all sorts of content from the trip; photos, drawings, podcasts and more. So stay turned to the blog!

Light Grey is headed to Iceland!

"Why would you head to such a cold place just as the spring weather is setting in?"

That's the question you're probably asking us right now, right? Well, recently I found out I was a cold weather person. I love green things, but holy crap, do I love ice.

Francesca, Chris and I are heading on an Icelandic adventure! We're renting a 4 x 4 and driving all over the wide-open spaces of one of the most gorgeous locations I've had the chance to visit. Iceland is home to just over 300,000 people (which is just under the population of the city of Minneapolis!) And, as you can imagine, we probably won't be seeing many people while we're there.

Besides the solitude, we'll be trekking through all sorts of insane landscapes.

I'm totally looking forward to taking a ton of photos, drawing what we see, sketching and documenting our trip. It'll be my fun side project while we're on our adventure.
These photos are all from our trip a couple years ago and we're incredibly excited to see all of the things we missed the first time around.

I also hear there are ice caves! (Don't worry, mom, I won't go in them.)
Anyway, I just wanted to let you guys know that Jenny Bookler will be holding down the fort while we're gone with help from Jared Tuttle and Victoria Nohl (my sister!)!
